Vancouver Ondo

Project Overview

Vancouver Ondo is a group that mainly performs at the Sakura Days Festival, an event that introduces and engages with Japanese culture. Although they have been active for over 10 years, they didn't have anyone to promote their dance on social media before the event, or to film and edit videos of the event on the day. I contacted the person in charge of Vancouver Ondo 2025, told them I was studying video editing at college, and became involved in the event as a volunteer video editor.

Point of the Project

When editing the video, the thing I kept in mind most was to make it look like a lot of fun and make people want to participate. It's a festival, so of course that's what I wanted to do. It's important to utilize what I've learned, but that's not something that the festival organizers or the viewers will care about. We received a request from a person in charge to shoot and edit videos to be uploaded to Instagram. Therefore, each video needed to be completed within a short time frame of just one minute. There were also two types of videos: one announcing the event and one that captured the event on the day. The event announcement video was made to pique viewers' interest, give them a sense of what the festival was like, and ultimately make them want to participate themselves. For the video that was made after the event, we aimed to create a video that would incorporate soothing elements, allowing people who participated on the day to look back and remember what kind of dance it was, what the lyrics were, and what the atmosphere was like, and feel that they had enjoyed it.
